A huge thanks to CIEE for inviting Desén's founders as guest researchers. The researcher role is finished, but there will be another exhibition in the fall including new pieces.
For more information on the research done in Berlin, check it out here.
A mix of digital simulations and physical models are being combined for Desén's first exhibition in Berlin today - small preview below.
Desén's founders have been invited as the first guest researchers to the Center for International Education and Exchange (CIEE) Global Institute in Berlin to prototype early design simulations using advanced fabrication technologies including 3d printers and CNC machines.
An exhibition of select prototypes will be held on Friday, 22 July @:
CIEE Global Institute
Gneisenaustraße 27, 10961
Desén is a furniture design research project founded by Benjamin James (US) and Lukas Manoch (CZ). We use fluid dynamic algorithms to explore what happens to objects as they become deformed and reformed by natural processes.
This research raises questions about the boundaries of design between physics, nature, engineering and fabrication. It pushes us to consider new applications of algorithmic thought from disciplines traditionally disconnected with aesthetics.
A lot of interesting things are happening in the coming weeks and we'll use this as a platform to show images, prototypes, simulations and research publications that we're working on.
